The Mayans concept of time was that it was cyclic. They had several different calenders that were used for different purposes. These calenders were of different time periods. 2012 is not when the world ends, It is when all of the calenders end and begin on the same days. According to their beliefs, the world age could come to an end. Or it could just continue on as always depending on the judgment of the gods. They certainly didn't teach that the world would end. That would be up to the gods alone. no man could know. As for any alien connection with the Mayans, There is none. It is something you see on tv that is only believable because most people don't know enough about the Mayans to know better. I saw one guy on tv who claimed that a statuette of a Mayan dancer was a depiction of a man in a space suit. It was actually a statuette of a man dressed as the lizard or monster god. Anyone who bothered to check would have easily found out that the god he was depicting was not even an air god, but an earth god. This foolishness degrades the traditions of a noble people.
