Do you know the name of the sci-fi movie where aliens use a small piece of a black hole for energy?
The aliens are coming to conquer earth. Their space ships are obscured by the bit of black hole that precedes them and provides their ships with energy. The black hole collides with our moon before reaching Earth, but the aliens continue with their attack. My husband says he saw this movie (can’t remember when) but remembers nothing more about it. I’ve never heard of it. Can anyone provide the name of it? If not, what are some great sci-fi movies you recommend? Thanks.

That sounds so familiar to me, and I’ve been trying to place it. There is an alien moon landing in “The Lathe of Heaven”, of which two versions have been filmed. However, I can’t find a detailed summary that will support my thought of one of them being a possibility. Of the two versions (1980 and 2002), the Eighties film is considered the better one. The more-recent version drops “The” from the title: “Lathe of Heaven”.
I’ve been searching this site, which has information about books, movies and TV series episodes that deal with black holes:

I’ll keep looking to see if I can back up “Lathe”. If I can’t solve this for certain, I might delete this answer. Back to the hunt…
As for recommendations… It’s difficult to know where to start, as there are so many amazing science fiction films. Here are some of my favorites:
Five Million Years to Earth aka Quatermass and the Pit
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
The Terminator & T2: Judgment Day
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Pitch Black & Chronicles of Riddick
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
War of the Worlds (1953) & (2005)
Immortel (ad vitam) aka Immortal
The Thing from Another World
Village of the Damned (1960)
Fantastic Planet (animated)
The Time Machine (1960)
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
The Last Starfighter
My Science Project
Fantastic Voyage
Forbidden Planet
This Island Earth
Alien tetralogy
Blade Runner
Enemy Mine
Total Recall
Predator
Starman
Moon
I have to admit that I’m partial to the older films. It’s disappointing to see special effects/CGI used in place os developing a story, as witnessed by the remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still”.
