Why do we assume aliens require a planet similar to our own?
Why do we assume aliens require a planet similar to our own?
Is our imagination so limited that we assume aliens require oxygen and liquid water? Or even a planet at all?
Answer by Billy Butthead
They would likely be based on some sort of DNA not too much different than ours so the range of environment they would require would be pretty close to ours.

bcuz you have to start somewhere. if we look for liquid water and life based on carbon and oxygen, we have a fair chance of recognizing it when we see it.
narrow-mindedness has nothing do with it. science has everything to do with it.
your stupid, life cannot exist without oxygen and water. and any other planet that has these 2 elements would obviously have to be very similar to our own planet. Liquid H2O cannot exist without the planet it is on being about the same distance that the earth is from the sun. Our imaginations arent limited, its just your narrow mindedness and willing to accept that are lacking.
We don’t. There have been all sorts of speculations about aquatic life on Europa or giant floating gas bags on Jupiter.
