Therefore if an alien species arrived on earth they would have the technology to travel possible hundreds of thousands of light years to get here. There technology would be millions upon millions of years more advanced than ours (imagine Great Britain of the 19th century taking on the US military of today. They wouldn't stand a chance and that's only two hundred years). If the aliens were hell bent on destroying us there's little we could do except die and we would probably never even lay eyes on them.
