Why can’t we eliminate benefits to illegal aliens to make up budget shortfalls?

Why can’t we eliminate benefits to illegal aliens to make up budget shortfalls?
Since many states and our nation are in record debt with record budget shortfall, why should we continue to provide benefits to illegals and their children who shouldn’t be here in the first place? We could save a tremendous amount of money by denying education, welfare and medicaid to illegal aliens and their children. This way we can continue to pay our teachers, policemen, and firefighters a living wage. If illegal aliens self deport when we deny them benefits, policemen will also find their workload reduced as they won’t have to pursue illegals who commit additional crimes or drive drunk.

  2. KevinM says:

Because of activist judges who strike down law after law after law enacted by the legislature and the American people.

That would only make sense, therefore, it can’t be done.

That was tried and declared “Unconstitutional” in California.
Most Of California’s Prop. 187 Ruled Unconstitutional
LOS ANGELES (AllPolitics, March 19) — A U.S. District Court judge has declared most of California’s Proposition 187 unconstitutional.
Approved by voters in 1994, the proposition would have denied health care, education and welfare benefits to illegal immigrants. Almost immediately, Judge Mariana Pfaelzer granted its opponents’ request for a restraining order, which prevented it from taking effect.
In her final ruling, Pfaelzer rejected California’s attempt to regulate immigration, which she said is the federal government’s responsibility.
Judge Pfaelzer’s ruling strikes down portions of the initiative that would have required law enforcement, teachers, social service and health care workers to verify a person’s immigration status. Under Proposition 187, they would have had to report illegals to authorities and to deny them social service, health care and education benefits.
The American Civil Liberties Union’s Southern California chapter was one of the five groups which sued to stop Proposition 187. In a statement, ACLU spokesman Mark Rosenbaum said Pfaelzer correctly denied California’s attempt to regulate immigration.
“[It is] not a matter for individual states to attempt to formulate their own rules and procedures,” Rosenbaum said. “School teachers and doctors are not substitutes for INS agents.”
But California Gov. Pete Wilson, who supports Proposition 187, vowed to appeal, “so that the will of the people can be upheld.”

Pete Wilson stated the task but Grey Davis dropped the ball.

Where are your forefathers from? It certainly is not in the country you are in? How were they given the right to enter this country? Sure we need guidelines but they are very difficult to draw. Should we look into your family tree to see if you should be deported or do you pay enough to keep you. Think before you speak.l

Why can’t we stop the war in iraq and afganistan ? Bush bankrupted the country with that, and obama has not withdrawn the troops

  7. Jill says:

They seem to think we have an endless supply of money and really do not care what happens to this country. Many illegals send back so much money to Mexico families there are building new houses, buying very good used cars and they have Mexicans taking care of them. Like cutting their grass, cleaning the family pool, nanny, gardener, all made available by American dollars

  8. GreasyTony says:

Won’t work! because they are only eligible for very very few Government Programs. We foot the bill on some of their Emergency Room Visits by denying them healthcare. A regular doctor’s visit could have prevented the ER visit, but how can they if they don’t have any benefits. We save $ 100 today by denying them healthcare, but spend $ 500 later.

    Illegal Immigrants and Benefits

Eligibility requirements were further tightened in 1996 when Congress passed (and President Clinton signed) the welfare-reform law known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. From then on, only citizens or legal immigrants, such as those with a Green Card, were eligible for federal benefits.

Federal law also bars states and local governments from extending those benefits to undocumented immigrants.

Benefits for the Undocumented: the Exceptions
Few, narrow exceptions apply. For example, undocumented immigrants are eligible for certain emergency medical treatments. They may receive short-term disaster relief. They may be immunized against communicable diseases. They may be served at soup kitchens or seek refuge in homeless shelters. Children of undocumented immigrants may attend public schools. But those same children are not eligible for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which covers children of the working poor not eligible for Medicaid.

illegals don’t get any benefits, their american born children do.
go apply for medicaid and welfare and tell them you don’t have a social security number tell them you are in the country illegally, come here tomorrow and tell me what they told you

  10. Truth search says:

They should all be deported! They are invaders of our country and should be treated as War Criminals, the people that shelter or employ them should be imprisoned!I hope people realize the travesty of the Obama Dept. of Deception and vote in 2010 to remove many of the Democrats from office.Yes I voted for the Great Deceiver and regret it every day.If he gets Sonia on the bench it will only get worse!

  11. Miss Daisy says:

Bravo, that would make sense now wouldn’t it?But since when did our govt do anything that helped the ave tax payer.I see by your answers that you have the token”they don’t get welfare”but we know they do.In fact I see it everyday where I work.So that line of crap is only good for the ignorant that would believe it.But I also agree with you if we where to cut these”eaters and breeders”off of the welfare tit we would kill two birds with one stone, they would leave”they wouldn’t want to stay w/o the welfare”and we would save money. Not to mention the jobs we would have.Great question.

  12. ale says:

undocumented people get very little benefits if any and by the way you stated that their children should also be denied benefits which would be impossible because more than likely their children are US citizens; therefore, they cannot be denied benefits it would be constitutional why don’t you concentrate one of the main issues that got us in this mess like the war in the Middle East?

  13. NOT_RACIST says:

I think you need to get your facts straight before you start saying things…illegal people DO NOT nor CAN NOT get any type of assistance.
