Does the existence of Planet X / Nibiru have any validity in mainstream astronomy?
Or is is there no valid evidence proving this planets existence?
Answer by AstroGeek
No.
There is no evidence *for* it’s existence, and there is a lot of evidence *against* it’s existence.
Below is my “2012 is a hoax” page, but if you skip down a bit more than halfway I discuss the origins of the “Planet X” hoax and the “Nibiru” hoax, including critiques of the claims of the principal authors of each. At the very bottom there are links to articles by others which also discuss each object.
Edit: The object referenced by LadyGreenEyes is now known as ‘Eris’, and for a while went by the nickname ‘Xena’. Its discovery was one of the things that caused the IAU to redefine ‘planet’, which resulted in Pluto being demoted. Pluto is now known as a ‘Dwarf Planet’ and a ‘Trans-Neptunian Object’ (TNO). Eris and all of the other TNOs do not match the descriptions given by proponents for either Nibiru or “Planet X”.

There is GOOD evidence for a tenth planet. Pluto was discovered rather by accident, since they were looking for a planet that would cause much larger gravitational disturbances that it can, due to its size. Since you asked, I went to the source, and looked on NASA. This is what I found: (from 2005)

Now, this does NOT mean some weird myth or anything is true, only that there is another planet out there. That far out from the sun, life as we know it is quite unlikely, and I would not worry. Better possibilities for that would be on the moons of the gas giants.
Still, it’s exciting (to me anyway) that they actually located the tenth planet after so long. Happy reading!
Almost ZERO
