Pluto was discovered rather by accident, since they were looking for a planet that would cause much larger gravitational disturbances that it can, due to its size. Since you asked, I went to the source, and looked on NASA. That far out from the sun, life as we know it is quite unlikely, and I would not worry. Better possibilities for that would be on the moons of the gas giants.
