Hi. It would have to be very unusual for it to be considered a planet. I don’t think so.

The idea of another planet has been bounced around for many years. I recall in grade school (> 30 yrs ago) hearing speculations of a planet X.

They’ll always be arguing about classifying planets, moons, and asteroids. Many have claimed that the planet they are looking for is better explained as a belt of asteroids.

I wouldn’t believe it because it would be farther from the sun than even Pluto (which is not a planet) which makes it a KBO (Kuiper Belt Object). That means “Planet X” would just be another icy rock that happens to be larger than the other billions of rocks out there.

If you read the article, they DON’T say they found it.

“TOKYO (AFP) — Scientists at a Japanese university said Thursday they believed another planet up to two-thirds the size of the Earth was orbiting in the far reaches of the solar system. The researchers at Kobe University in western Japan said calculations using computer simulations led them to conclude it was only a matter of time before the mysterious “Planet X” was found.”

So they haven’t found anything – they believe its likely.
And they’re right – since Eris was discovered in 2003 scientists have speculated that there are thousands of objects in the Kuiper Belt (there are 42 being considered right now for “dwarf planet” designation).
