Finding the altitude above the surface of planet X in km?
Gravitation acceleration at surface of planet X is 13.2 m/s^2 and the radius of the planet is 51600 km. The altitude above the surface of planet X, at which the weight of a body is equal to that on the surface of the earth in km
Answer by debydete
The acceleration due to gravity on the surface of a planet of radius “R” and mass “M” is;
gx = GM/R
So require that at height “h” the acceleration is ge
ge = GM/(R+h)
elliminate GM from these eqs.;
ge = Rgx/(R + h)
solve for “h”
h = R[(gx -ge)/ge]
at this height an object of mass “m” will have weight “mge” where ge is the acceleration due to gravity on earth, 9.8 m/ss,.
