Some to protect of benefit us or them, some not to. To be honest, I don't entirely trust any governments, but I think we should trust that what the government is done with good intentions, unless we have found contradictory evidence. If you read the constitution, it gives fiscal power and responsibility to Congress. Which included the Fed, congress created. Whether you want to go back to previous administrations congress, the Democrat controlled congress since 2006, or the Republican congress prior to that,. fine. But let's put the responsibility on the shoulder of those who have the power to control it. Speaking of responsibility, I can only speak for myself, but I did put all my investments in Treasury securities, low interest, low risk funds before the crash. Didn't lose a dime. Most people lost money because they passed their responsibility on to people they do not know, entrusting them to invest it for them. If you lost money in your retirement accounts, mutual funds, try placing a little responsibility on yourself, or those people you paid to invest it for you.
