What are Chemtrails and what are there purpose?

I have never read up on chemtrails but being the sort to read and investigate i had to look it up just now. Dont be so foolish to just accept everything outlandish as a conspiracy. Look things up. Here is an artical from the guardian newspaper from 2002

Chemtrail is a word dreamed up by some tinfoil hat wearing nut-job for contrails, the trails of condensation left behind by high-flying aircraft. The idea is that they are supposed to be sprays of mind-controlling chemicals, being used by the “New World Order” to keep us all under control.
As conspiracy theories go it is one of the most insane, just one notch down from belief in a flat Earth.

An interesting link, to be sure, but who are “they” and why are they supposedly doing it?. In the case of the experiments carried out by the British government in the 50s / 60s, they were spreading what they genuinely believed were harmless organisms and chemicals. Why? Because they were fully expecting to go to war against the USSR and they needed to know about the spread of fallout and biological weapons. They were doing it for the public good, in other words.
That is completely different to a global conspiracy (including the USSR and China) involving hundreds of thousands of people, which would have to have been going on since the 40s (look at film of bombers over Germany in the war – they make contrails).
Also, spraying millions of tons of some “mind control” chemicals that don’t exist? Where are they made? How are they distributed? Who are the ground staff that put them in the planes? Who are the engineers who fit the spraying devices to the civilian aircraft? Why do the maintenance technicians ignore these spraying devices? When there is an air crash why do the local population not get an overdose of these chemicals?

Too many whys. You have to have a very loose grip on reality to take this stuff seriously.
