Anybody know anything about why the Mayan Calendar says the world is going to end soon?
Answer by V
2012 marks the end of a certain cycle of the Mayan Calendar. Their calendar also stops there. Supposedly it is a time of great change.

Actually it doesn’t say that. The Mayan calender only goes to 2012. Everyone has assumed that it means that it’s the end of the world. I hope that everyone on here understands what assume means. If not I’ll mark it out for you. ass/u/me That’s what it makes.

It doesn’t say anything of the sort. There is a point where it ends, this does not mean that the world is going to end with it. The Mayans believed that everything happens in cycles. When one cycle ends another begins. There are also cycles within cycles. At the point where the calander ends is the end of a major cycle. They believed that when a cycle like the one ending in 2012 ends that it brings forth a period of rebirth.
The reason this is the case is because the mayan calendar stops at 2012. Those who are in search of attention or search of selling newspapers, air time, or hoaxy type of tv, would most likely use the possibility that this means a prediction by mayans that the world will end. Most likely though, at least I’m hoping most likely! hehe, the reason is that they felt no need to continue the calendar. Could you imagine fifty years ago before computerized calendar, why anyone would want to have a calendar of 10,000 pages as opposed to 12? What would be the point to going that far just for the sake of going that far. That would require someone taking pen to paper, or ink to print sheet for no real good reason. Now with the advent of the personal computer anyone can simply drag a formula on forever and no what day of the week it would be on Dec. 6, 120394.
