Did the Mayan calendar start at the beginning of the world?
I don’t believe in this, but I think a lot of people do. I’ve even heard of far more fantastical stories people believe in ![]()
So I thought I would ask. If the Mayans predicted the end wouldn’t they have predicted the beginning with their calendar? So did the Mayan calendar start at the beginning of the world as we know it?

The Mayans didn’t predict the end of the world. That myth is a misinterpretation by idiot new agers of the end of a cycle on the Long Count Calendar (one of several calendars which the Mayans used). Even if they did predict it, there would be no point in starting a new calendar since there would be no more world.

Didn’t it ever occur to anyone that the Mayans just got tired of making a calendar?
And didn’t it ever occur to you that the Mayans just arbitrarily decided when to make a calendar? Probably by the time they had already progressed enough to develop a written language.
The current cycle of the Mayan calendar began in 3114 BC.

Unless you are a young Earth creationist, the Earth has been around much longer than that, like 4.5 billion years.
