Does the Mayan Calendar actually predict an event happening on Dec 21 or is it just the end of their calendar?
I’ve heard both before but never actually was able to find a real answer. Do the Mayans claim something is going to happen on Dec 21 or did people assume this because of the last day of the calendar? I’m not saying whether or not I believe in all of this but just wondering where this theory comes from.
I don’t know much of Mayan history though I find them fascinating.

It is simply the end of their calendar’s cycle.
The Mayan calendar is probably the most complex of all calendars used by a primitive society.

All it predicts is the end of the current solar cycle and the beginning of the next. Just like a calendar ending on December 31st predicts the end of the current year and the beginning of the next. It’s no doomsday prophecy, that is just an interpertation about WHY it’s ending.
End of their calendar and I hate how people think it is the end of time. The calendar was invented 3000 years ago. Dates are endless so what were they suppose to do. Put an infinity symbol on their calendar…no. They continued the calendar for as long as they felt necessary. They knew they would never live this long plus the Aztecs were eliminated so they didn’t have any chance to keep it going.
Plus something that completely destroys this theory is the leap year. It was created 1000 years after the calendar and the aztecs never incorporated this into their calendar. Because of this fact we have already passed the theoretical date for the end of the world and nothing happened.
