which scintists?

sadly, some genuinely interesting things will happen in 2012, like the last transit of venus until 2117. but that doesn't matter. ppl seem more impressed with pseudoscintific garbage.

tragic.

there will be a Solar maximum around 2012.

i guess that is proof that all the lunatics are correct.

like the lunatics that think Planet X / Nibiru exists. How dim do you have to be to think a planet can wander through the Solar System every 3600 years and do NOTHING? Venus' orbit is almost a perfect circle! Get a grip.

NASA is your BEST source for information about 2012, as they have repeated again and again (is that redundant?) that Nibiru is a hoax, that there is no comet heading our way, that meteors are unpredictable (though we are due, i admit, but COME ON! Predict me some LOTTO numbers!)

the Mayans decided that their biggest cycle is about 295 years and their calendar has flipped over 12 times. So far, we are still here....

Don't be fooled. The 2012 nonsense is still all about people who are trying to predict our ending without any proof. Here's what NASA actually say about Planet X aka Nibiru:
"Nibiru is simply a fake, a hoax, the result of a small religious cult that is unfortunately scaring lots of people with totally false stories".

As for a solar storm, NASA currently predict the next solar maximum, in 2012, to be less energetic than the last in 2001:

What scientists are predicting this? Not "them" again? The unnamed and no one ever says who they are? Or rather no one knows who they are.

December 21st, 2012 is predicted to be the end of the world by multiple ancient cultures. This is because these cultures were very good astronomers and were able to figure out that on that day the sun will rise directly in the center of our Milky Way galaxy, aligning the sun, earth, and center of the Milky Way. To the ancients this was surely the mark of the end of days. Luckily, we've learn a little more since then and realize that nothing special will probably happen.
The different consequences proposed involve our magnetic poles switching or Planet x and it's 3600 year orbit causing us lots of problems.
Most likely the year 2012 will be just like any other year for earth unless something us humans do destroys it.

If you want to believe that 'end is near' that's fine.
However, if you use the word 'proof' in connection with such rubbish then you do not know what you are talking about.

There are none. There are no "predictions" that rely on the Maya theory, because the Maya theory was invented by someone who does not understand the Mayan calendar (but managed to sell books pretending that he does).

Meteors strike Earth many times each DAY.

If you ask the question: Will there be a meteor striking Earth in 2012? The answer is "Of course, every day, just like every year."

Solar storms (better known as geomagnetic storms, once they affect Earth) are most common around the "Solar Max", the maximum time in the Sun's eleven-year activity cycle.

Every 11 years.

I don't know about you, but I happen to know some people who are older than 11, meaning that they survived the last Solar Max.

There is no Planet X scheduled for 2012.

Planet X was invented by charlatans to explain their prediction for the end-of-the-world of... 2003. They had a book explaining how Planet X was going to make life miserable for us and on how to survive.

Well 2003 passed and many of us survived, even though we did not give them our money.

So they revised the book, using the date from the "Mayan" prediction. They refined their fake Planet X by adding features from Nibiru, a planet invented in the late 1960s by Zecharia Sitchin -- in Zecharia's story, Nibiru does not return until 2085. What Agnes C describes is the "enhanced" Planet X, using the information from the Nibiru story. In Zecharia's story, Nibiru never hits Earth.

They (the charlatans) also used features from Nemesis, a hypothetical brown dwarf companion of the Sun which came from a theory back in the 1980s. The theory was shown to be false in the 1990s (and Nemesis was dropped). In the hypothesis, Nemesis would have returned in 13 million years.

I'm sure that after 2012 has passed, I'm sure they (or some other charlatans) will "time" the arrival of Planet X with the next popular end-of-the-world prediction.
