Its like this. They ran out of room on their rock calendar.

  2. A Modest Proposal says:

The Mayan calendar “ends” on that date because of an inability of the Mayans at that time to map it out further.

The 2012 doomsday theories are complete bullocks. There is no evidence whatsoever to support them. You can search for very thorough rebuttals of the ideas on youtube.

  3. Aonghas says:

The Mayans don’t even believe that crap. Which just goes to show what a crock it all is.

  4. Jonhenry says:

Did 1980s computer programmers predict the world would end on December 1999?

  5. lou_ciphor says:

Well look at it this way. When your calender on the fridge or hanging on a door ends, does the world. No you get a new one. The Mayans, if they still survived today, would have a new calendar too.

  6. Jabberwock says:

    No connection whatsoever.

The Maya calendar works in a similar way to other calendars – it counts days and allows references to dates. That’s all.

No calendar can predict an apocalypse. Maybe planetary science or other disciplines that actually examine the world could predict problems, but there is no sign of anything.

If any one person claims an upcoming apocalypse, how would that person know? Do they have access to scientific data that nobody else has?

Or are they just spouting rubbish to scare people, based on misconceptions that calendars can actually have an effect?

    It’s buffalo poop.

  7. Yahoo, srsly. says:

If the world ends in 2012, what can anyone of us do about it?
    Worrying ain’t gonna help.

I do not believe this is the end of things. the mayan calendar is a cycle….it wasn’t even interpreted until recently anyway, because there is no rosetta stone for Mayan hieroglyphs. Some kind of genius Russian guy figured them out. It’s funny we get to know what it means when for thousands of years, nobody really cared much.

    my thoughts.

  8. Corey says:

The calendar doesn’t end in 2012. It doesn’t predict the end of the world in 2012. All it does is say that a couple of the Mayan gods will show up for the 13th baktun anniversary of when their myths say the world was created. For like a party. Not any of the hoaxes that you’ve heard. All that started when a self-proclaimed new age guru named Jose Arguellas mistranslated (I used that term loosely, he couldn’t read Mayan, he just made it up) a known Mayan inscriptions. There’s other inscriptions at the same sight that talk about dates later than 13.0.0.0.0.

    LMAO at Christian.
If anything happens, it happens, but either way the media is gonna have themselves a great time stirring things up.
