It doesn't predict the end of the world in 2012. All it does is say that a couple of the Mayan gods will show up for the 13th baktun anniversary of when their myths say the world was created. All that started when a self-proclaimed new age guru named Jose Arguellas mistranslated (I used that term loosely, he couldn't read Mayan, he just made it up) a known Mayan inscriptions. There's other inscriptions at the same sight that talk about dates later than 13.0.0.0.0. The calendar doesn’t end in 2012. It doesn’t predict the end of the world in 2012.
