DOnt forget that we have an asteroid that wil get extremly close that year, what if through its jorney in space something happens and it does hit us? what if whiel its zooming through space something hits it a little to the left or whatever and that makes it hit earth directly. THe Mayans had little tech and yet were able to calcuate the distance of the moon and many other things. And a giant few thousand pound rock going a couple hundred thousand miles per hour would do some damage.
