Whats the deal with the mayan calendar ending in 2012?
Why did the ancient Mayan or pre-Maya choose December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count calendar?

Answer by David A
the stone was only so big.

Isn’t it amazing the Mayans used the Gregorian calendar

They didn’t. For one thing, it is not the end of the mayan calendar, just the end of one cycle of the mayan calendar. For another thing, they didn’t specifically decide to end a cycle on that date, instead they decided to START on a certain date and that just happened to be the end date.

Mabye the same reason why we didn’t bother programming the thousands place into our computerized years till the late 90s.

They figured the world MUST be over by then, and if it wasn’t, someone would have fixed the calendar.

It is definetely fake, dude. This calendar was made 10,000 years ago!!! Probably very inaccurate.

that is true a new era is going to begin that day, we are just not sure what is going to happen read the bible and you will understand a little bit more, it is going to be the last era of this life/world.

do you take serious a race that tore the still beating hearts out of thousand upon thousand of innocent “sacrafices” and then destroyed itself?

According to a program on the History Channel, that date corresponds with an extremely rare cosmic event. Our Sun will be aligned with the center of the galaxy. The ancient Mayans used real scientific astronomy to determine dates and events, even if the interpretations weren’t scientific.

It is also true that the Mayan calendar is cyclical in nature, and this will be the end of a cycle. It is also true that, in the past, the ends of cycles in the Mayan calendar correspond with major events. The Mayan tracking of the heavens is as accurate, if not MORE accurate than our own. Anyone who says otherwise has their facts mixed up.
