They don't hide from us what enemies have nuclear or biological weapons. If our government really knew that there was life on other planets it would be a MAJOR political issue. Somewhere, somehow, some politician would learn of it, and use it to promote military spending. It might have been kept under wrap for a while, but not this long. There is too much political advantage in having the public knowing. Plus, if there was an alien threat, we SHOULD be supporting our government to develop any type of weapon it can to protect ourselves. No. Think about it, why would the government hide that from us?
