If the time was 11.35 pm on the 20th and you saw a starlike object low in the south, moving from right to left and which faded out over a period of several seconds, then it was the International Space Station. It disappearance is explained by the fact that it passed from sunlight into the Earth's shadow.
It's due by in the same direction tonight (21st) at 10.25 pm so have a look and see if can spot the same thing again (although it won't suddenly disappear this time).

According to the NASA real time data, the international space station flew over your location about 11:30 last night and about 11:06 the night before. In both instances, the space station would have been seen from your location low in the southern sky and generally moving from west to east. When I have seen it, it looks like a very bright white light moving at a surprisingly fast speed.

Does this match what you saw at all? Just a suggestion...
