It disappearance is explained by the fact that it passed from sunlight into the Earth's shadow. It's due by in the same direction tonight (21st) at 10.25 pm so have a look and see if can spot the same thing again (although it won't suddenly disappear this time). In both instances, the space station would have been seen from your location low in the southern sky and generally moving from west to east. When I have seen it, it looks like a very bright white light moving at a surprisingly fast speed. Does this match what you saw at all? Just a suggestion...
