well to me opeth and katatonia have a very similar rhythm and feeling.
DOOOM!!!
Harold Camping was RIGHT about May 21, click on my channel to see…
@vetlerradio Porcupine Tree for sure. Can’t say I’m a huge Dream Theater fan. I mainly just don’t like the vocals. Other than that though, Jordan Rudess is the best keyboard player I know of.. and Petrucci is definitely one of the best guitarists out there.
@xorganizationxvx They are like the best bands ( with Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree hehe) !
Opeth, Meshuggah, and Katatonia are awesome. And so is this song.
This song shivers me…it horripilates me. And I love it so much….
Wtf Meshuggah? You guys should quit drugs…
@Songofwyrd BS. I’ll be the first to admit Idle Blood sounds like Opeth. However, If YOU hear some “outright” Opeth influence on Viva then that’s all in your head.
Someone else mentioned Meshuggah so don’t worry about it.
Just heard NITND for the first time a few days ago, and this was my favorite track. Reminds me of “Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light”- era My Dying Bride, specifically the riff right after the line “To take your son”.
Comparing Opeth and Katatonia = Fail:
Just look at the influences of both bands and you’ll notice that they have many non-metal ones that are similary. So Opeth and Katatonia always will conform in some way.
In fact, we have so many “pure” metal-bands…it’s a logical consequence that we always try to compare the “hybrid metal-bands”.
@FromDimmuLand
Funny, I always think of winter and autumn and just general gloominess when I listen to this album. I fucking love it.
@UselessOpinions Significant chunks of Viva Emptiness disagree with your anti Opeth assertations. I think a large number of people are just arguing this because they think this is somehow supposed to imply Katatonia is bad – Far from it.
And I certainly never said anything about Meshuggah and Katatonia, so I have no idea where you got that from….
@Songofwyrd Katatonia has never shown any Opeth influence besides Idle Blood and a few brief instances on the new record. This track however sounds nothing like Opeth and most certainly has nothing to do with Meshuggah. The only similarity between Katatonia and Meshuggah is the intro to both “Forsaker” and “Future Breed Machine” and even that’s stretching it.
Katatonia must be more famous for their awsome music.
Thumbs up if u agree.
@NextArminius That’s the first thing I thought when I first heard forsaker. You won’t hear me complaining though. I LOVE both bands and “Forsaker” is a great song.
theres even a sound of swallow the sun i think its psychopaths lair yeah is that song
@skeletoys hahaha funny man
No one’s taking anything away from Katatonia, least of all me. But they have flirted with Opeth-esque moments for a few albums now, although spinning them a great deal more doomy. Its not surprising – Jonas Renske and Mikael Akerfeldt are close friends, and used to live together.
Hey guys, if you like Katatonia than check out my band Grey Skies Fallen on my channel.
Katatonia rules!!!
@neunmad Exactly! But maybe the Meshuggah influence is more obvious in Forsaker? Anyway, great bands all!
@Arkayem exactly!Katatonia is a unique perfect band and so is Opeth.But their sounds are way different as you said
best metal band ever !
This sounds nothing like Opeth at all.
Lets leave Katatonia to their own sound, because they do have one, and it is fucking amazing.
